David Gottlieb

I am a philosopher and AI researcher. Earlier this year, I received my Ph.D. in Philosophy and Symbolic Systems from Stanford University, advised by Thomas Icard. I’m currently looking for work.

My dissertation research concerned the social and linguistic practices we use to distinguish the objective from the subjective. I also study animal and machine consciousness, and how LLMs engage in moral reasoning. I combine philosophical and technical AI research methods.

Before philosophy graduate school, I worked as a corporate lawyer.
